Dermal fillers are popular treatments for deep wrinkles and facial lines. Advanced fillers such as Restylane and Juvéderm, are most commonly used in men to fill out laughter lines and lines around the mouth, hollows under the eyes, frown lines and acne pits.
Dermal fillers are also effective for increasing fullness to narrow lips, enhancing sunken cheeks and can even be used to contour the bridge of the nose
Most men who opt for dermal fillers are over 35 and are experiencing the effects of premature ageing, however younger men in their 20s often have fillers to correct minor deformities in the nose. Dermal fillers may be used alone or in conjunction with a re-contouring procedure, such as a facelift.
The procedure starts with a mild anaesthetic cream being applied to the treatment area for your comfort and the dermal filler is injected directly into the skin beneath the wrinkle or the sunken area with a very fine needle. The treatment session lasts for 20-40 minutes.
Following the treatment you may feel a slight swelling and bruising, but it will gradually improve after two days. The suppleness and tone of your skin are instantly restored, with lines and wrinkles visibly reduced from the very first treatment. With dermal filler treatment there is minimal recovery or downtime. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. These are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own withing few hours to a couple of days. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.
Dermal fillers are eventually metabolised by the body, hence the results are temporary. In some patients the results may last only a few weeks; however in others, the results may be maintained indefinitely. Researchers believe that age, genetic background, skin quality and lifestyle as well as the injected body site may all play a role in the injected fillers “staying power”. Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
